Revelopment and Growth

I am concerned with how the city will face 21st Century realities, while preserving
the charms that make Roswell a wonderful place for families, and hopefully a place
our children will come back to.  I would also like to see more options for empty-
nesters and seniors to stay in Roswell if they choose to downsize.

Development can have a positive impact if it brings jobs and increases our tax
base, but it can be detrimental if it clogs our roads and overcrowds our classrooms.
A single apartment complex impacts our schools, roads, police and fire protection,
Parks and Recreation usage, and water and sanitation demands. Each zoning
decision or development project must be judged on how it impacts all of these
factors.  Roswell City Council’s role is to differentiate projects that impact our
community positively and those which impact our community negatively.   These
are the tough decisions in which I want to participate.

We in Roswell are proud of our excellent schools and the leaders we produce in
our children.  But often these wonderful young adults leave Roswell after
graduation for areas where jobs are more plentiful, the housing more affordable,
and the social life is more vibrant. The key to enticing our children to return to
Roswell, is to educate them well, provide a safe environment, and create an
attractive community—and city government plays a critical role in that future.

Careful zoning must be paired with controlled development to protect our schools.
Both aspects are important.  All elements of city government must create the
synergism necessary to help Roswell reach its full potential.
